Residents of Novokuznetsk in Siberia are to benefit from advanced network technology as JSC Sibirtelecom, a local telecommunications service provider, deploy an IMS-based, next-generation network (NGN) featuring Nortel technology. The deployment allows Sibirtelecom to provide a range of cost effective fixed and mobile voice, data and multimedia services.

The new network also meets the requirements of modern NGN communications standards, particularly IMS. Based on IP technologies, it integrates VoIP softswitches, media gateways and Sibirtelecoms existing digital switched telephone network in order to expand its subscriber capacity.

The network offers advanced multimedia services such as Internet telephone calls, Internet mobility, video telephony, file exchange, voice mail and integrated universal messaging. Increased capacity in turn allows more subscribers in the Novokuznetsk city area to make traditional local, international and domestic long-distance voice calls over the existing switched network.

The Sibirtelecom NGN infrastructure, deployed with the support of system integrator and Nortel channel partner RON-Telecom, includes the Nortel Communication Server 2000 super-class soft-switching technology, Media Gateway 15000 carrier-grade gateways, and UMUX 1500 subscriber access equipment so as to provide 27,000 analogue subscriber lines. It is planned to expand the network capacity to 40,000 analogue subscriber lines by the end of 2006. The project also includes the provision of a Multimedia Communication Server 5200 in Novosibirsk city, which will allow Sibirtelecom to provide a common range of expanded multimedia services within the whole federal region of Siberia .

* Sibirtelecom is the leading fixed-line telecommunications service provider in the Siberian region of Russia. It is the third largest of the seven supra-regional traditional fixed-line telecom operators in Russia in terms of installed capacity (with 3.4 million access lines in use) and revenues. Sibirtelecom's area of operations covers about 29% of Russia's territory and 14% of its population. The company uses advanced technologies to offer a wide choice of telecommunication services for all categories of users including residential customers, corporate client and government agencies.
