Nokia Siemens Networks will deploy FDD LTE for Russian operator MTS during the third quarter of 2013. The deployment is due to cover the Moscow and Central Russia regions. By utilising its 2600MHz and 800MHz frequency bands for increased capacity, the operator will address the growing demand for mobile broadband services.
Andrey Ushatskiy, vice-president and CTO of MTS Group, said: “In 2012, we launched our TDD LTE network. By adding FDD LTE, we will be able to take full advantage of our spectrum allocation, provide higher capacity, and deliver the superior data experience that our subscribers deserve.”
Under the three-year contract, NSN will be the sole supplier of FDD LTE radio access, IP core network equipment and services. The vendor will upgrade the existing Single RAN platform, based on its high-capacity Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station.
The multi-technology Single RAN solution enables easy upgrading of the existing radio network for a fast LTE rollout. NSN will also deploy its NetAct network management system for consolidated configuration, monitoring and network optimisation.
“We are totally committed to supporting MTS so it can deliver the most efficient LTE network possible and serve more subscribers with higher data rates,” said Kristina Tikhonova, head of Region East at Nokia Siemens Networks.
