PLDT Selects TeliaSonera International Carrier’s IP Connectivity

The leading telecoms provider in the Philippines has signed a global IP transit service agreement with TeliaSonera International Carrier. The agreement will enable Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) to extend its reach and deliver a high-quality connection throughout North America, Asia and Europe.

PLDT is the Philippines’ largest fixed and mobile operator serving a population of 100 million people spanning more than 7,000 islands. The company offers a diversified range of telecommunications services throughout the Philippines including a significant outsourcing business.  Leveraging direct connections to multiple TSIC 10Gb/s ports across three continents, PLDT obtains high-quality IP transit connectivity.

Erik Hallberg, President, TeliaSonera International Carrier, says, “The ‘anywhereization’ of communications is changing the way companies look to expand their network reach. Our global footprint enables PLDT to extend its reach throughout North America, Asia and Europe without incurring the expenditure or complexity associated with building and managing its own global network.”

“Another key reason PLDT selected TSIC was our strong presence within the high-growth, emerging Asian telecommunications market. A robust economy and widespread infrastructure development have spurred a rise amongst the international telco community and caught the eyes of foreign investors.  The region now serves as a growing destination for outsourced global business,” he adds.

Genaro Sanchez, Vice President, Networks, PLDT, comments, “Leveraging TSIC, PLDT now delivers our services via a secure and reliable network that provides the most direct routes to our customers in the Philippines and overseas, especially Europe.”
