Cable & Wireless and Nokia will be expanding their existing global agreement to supply and deployment a GSM network in the British Virgin Islands.

Nokia will be supplying a GSM/EDGE base station subsystem from its radio portfolio, its MSC Server mobile softswitch from its core network portfolio, and its NetAct network and service management system from its services portfolio. Additionally, Nokia will be providing services such as network planning, implementation, network optimisation and post implementation care.

"C&W is well-positioned to take full advantage of the fast-growing Caribbean mobile market," said Tim Johnson, Vice President, Networks, Nokia. "C&W will have a state-of-the-art network to deliver reliable voice and data services to residents and tourists in the British Virgin Islands."

* Cable & Wireless operates through two stand-alone business units - international and UK. The former runs integrated telcos in 33 countries offering mobile, broadband, domestic and international fixed line services to residential and business customers, with principal operations in the Caribbean, Panama, Macau, Channel Islands and Monaco.
