America Movil’s Uruguayan division Claro Uruguay has chosen Alcatel-Lucent as its 4G/LTE network supplier.
The network will go live in Montevideo by February 2014, with further sites being deployed across the country within the year.
Claro Uruguay director Horacio Alvarellos said: “The deployment of 4G LTE is very important for Claro to expand our competitiveness in wireless broadband and offer new services to our customers. Especially for our customers in Montevideo and other urban areas it is important to offer a range of alternative services and improve coverage.”
The network will incorporate Alcatel-Lucent’s LTE solution and IP Networking technology, as well as the vendor’s 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). It will overlay the existing 3G network, increasing navigation speeds by up to ten times and allowing for HD video services among other applications.
