Telrad Networks has announced that its Commatch 6004 platform, which allows voice over WiMAX through existing TDM switches, has been deployed on two live networks in Poland. The deployments are in turn part of a deployment of Alvarion’s WiMAX solution. Commatch 6004 is intended to allow WiMAX VoIP over existing TDM switches with seamless interoperability.
Commatch 6004 allows call handling in VoIP deployments by providing a SIP to V5.2 gateway platform that transfers voice signalling as well as services such as call waiting, caller ID, fax and other services. The solution is designed for rural areas, where cost is a major issue, and in initial WiMAX deployments, where a soft-switch is impractical or not economical.
Commatch 6004 is a solution for providing fully-featured voice over WiMAX, carrying over features available on the TDM switch to the new IP network, with seamless interoperability.
Rebecca Rachmany, Director of Marketing for Telrad Networks, reviews the market: “In much of the world now, we see operators using WiMAX to provide access in locations where there was previously no access of any kind. In these locations, in addition to the broadband access, operators want to provide voice, without the expense of a softswitch. Commatch 6004 allowed Alvarion’s customers to get voice up and running in just a few hours.
