Israel closes in on 5G spectrum tender, with Pelephone ready to launch

Israel’s Ministry of Communications (MoC) has stated that the country is in the final stage of its 5G spectrum tender.

Spectrum in the 700MHz, 800MHz, 2600MHz and 3.5GHz (3500MHz-3800MHz) bands will be made available for bidding under a dynamic pricing process, followed by a static pricing process once the first stage of bidding is over.

The announcement has prompted operator Pelephone to claim that it will be ready to launch a commercial 5G offering as soon as it obtains the requisite spectrum. Pelephone said that it has deployed “hundreds” of sites that can use the 700MHz band and claims to have the highest number of 3.5GHz-ready sites in Israel.

TeleGeography reports that the operator as already revealed a range of tariffs branded as Pelephone+, including ‘5G MAX’ which provides users with 500GB monthly data usage for ILS59 (US$17).
