Chinguitel launches 4G services in Mauritania

Chinguitel, the telecommunications service provider in Nouakchott, Mauritania has announced the launch of its first LTE-based services - 4G services - in the country capital as well as six other regions after being awarded a 4G licence last September.

The operator has implemented networks in the capital city Nouakchott, as well as six regional centres: Nouadhibou, Zouerate, Atar, Akjoujt, Rosso and Kaedi. Chinguitel’s rival cellcos Moov Mauritel and Mattel launched 4G services in December 2020 and January 2021, respectively.

Eng Hani Arabi Karrar, managing director of Chinguitel, said the company will continue to expand the 4G network to cover all other regions, as well as other new services targeting consumers and business segments in the northwestern African country.

He said that the launch of this fourth generation of the internet comes at a particular juncture marked by the coronavirus pandemic which has imposed profound changes in the way of life which now requires work remotely and to communicate remotely.
