Zambian regulator allows Beeline to delay launch until June 2022

Zambia’s fourth mobile licensee Beeline Telecom has set a deadline of 30th June 2022 for its commercial launch.

The operator was issued its operating licence in February 2021 by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA). TeleGeography reports that Beeline was obliged to launch services within six months of receiving this permit or risk having it revoked.

However, August 2021 has come and gone, and ZICTA appears to be willing to offer Beeline an extended grace period, acknowledging that it has faced challenges. A representative of the regulator told the Zambia Daily Mail that Beeline has had difficulty with “the procurement of equipment and installations”, resulting in its launch being pushed back.
