Plintron brings MVNA offering to Chile

Plintron, which describes itself as the world's largest multi-country mobile virtual network aggregator / enabler (MVNA / MVNE) with a client base in six continents, has announced plans to launch its services in Chile this year, enabling Chilean brands to offer mobile services.

The country’s regulator, Subtel, granted an MVNO license to Plintron in April. Plintron has now allied with leading network operator, Telefónica Movistar Chile, to offer its MVNA services and thereby enable Chilean companies to become MVNOs.

An MVNA is a provider that buys access to an MNO’s network and then sells it to MVNOs. An MVNE supplies the infrastructure needed for MVNOs to operate and provide services.

What this means in Chile is that brands will be enabled by Plintron to extend their names to mobile services, thereby increasing their customer engagement and loyalty. Such brands need only focus on sales and marketing; the  rest of the support will be provided by Plintron.

Plintron explains that the Chile MVNO market is currently valued at US$0.03 billion and is expected to grow to US$0.05 billion at a CAGR of 10.2% by 2027. It has over 0.4 million MVNO subscribers, a number expected to double by 2027 at a CAGR of 14.1%.

Chilean MVNOs are dominantly focused on the consumer segment which has 75% of the MVNO base. However, the enterprise segment is expected to grow at a 10.7% CAGR till 2027.

In Chile, Plintron says it will focus on retail, ISP, consumer brands and enterprise segments. The retail segment is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% and the reseller segment at a CAGR of 10.3% till 2027. However, Plintron will also target IoT / M2M. This is the fastest growing MVNO segment in Chile, estimated to grow at a CAGR of 12.2% till 2027.
