America Movil tower firm buys Claro assets

America Movil infrastructure company Sitios Latinoamerica concluded a deal to buy 1,388 towers from Claro in the Dominican Republic, boosting its presence in Latin America.

DPL News reported the deal follows Sitios closing a deal to take 500 sites from America Movil this month, as part of plans to build new sites on top.

America Movil separated its towers into Sitios last year, which holds 20,090 towers in 13 countries in Latin America. The majority is in Brazil (39%) and the company is reportedly planning to build new towers in Peru.

Transferring and moving passive infrastructure has become the go-to method for operators to raise capital for expansion and pare down debt. In the Philippines, operators have been particularly aggressive with this strategy, eastern Europe is another seeing divestment of towers.
