Flow plans 2G shutdown in Saint Vincent

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-based operator Flow announced plans to shut down its 2G network this year to free up spectrum to bolster 3G and 4G services.

CommsUpdate reported, the Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC)-owned unit said it will “discontinue 2G spectrum” from September 30.

Local newspaper Searchlight reported Flow detailed that 2G devices will no longer be compatible, and subscribers have to upgrade to 3G or above to prevent service interruption.

Flow said the move will deliver faster data speeds for subscribers, expand coverage on the islands, and “pave the way for future innovations in wireless technology”.

The operator also pledged the shutdown will upgrade roaming for subscribers travelling to the US and other territories where 2G is no longer operational.
