MTN to pump US$215m into Benin

MTN Group pledged to invest US$215 million in infrastructure into Benin over the next three years after seeing positive results from 5G trials in the country.

The pledge was made during an MTN Group leadership visit to Benin headed by MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, meeting with Benin President Patrice Talon.

“MTN works to be a force for good in our markets, giving Africans hope, dignity and opportunity,” said Mupita. “We are grateful for the warm reception received in Benin, where we have trialled 5G services and see opportunities to progress this.”

“We are committed to the development and upskilling of the Beninese youth and have made clear our desire to partner with the government and other stakeholders in this regard,” he added.

The chief executive did not go into detail about the pan-African group’s investment into MTN Benin, which has around 8 million subscribers after 25 years operating in the country.
