Globe Telecom built 116 new cell sites and upgraded 812 mobile sites to LTE in Q1 this year.
The Philippines-based operator said in a statement it also deployed 19,544 more fibre-to-the-home lines, but conceded this was lower year-on-year.
The company added this was a “strategic move” to leverage its current fibre inventory to reduce capex spend, a company-wide strategy that was recently announced, after years of high capex spend.
Joel Agustin, Globe’s SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering, said: “Our plan supplements investments we’ve made in the last 3-4 years. We remain focused on improving service consistency and availability to deliver good customer experience and support traffic across regions and territories.”
