Globe Telecom strengthens ties with government to prevent fibre cuts

Philippines-based operator Globe Telecom has deepened its partnership with government agencies to prevent fibre cuts caused by roadworks, following a spate of accidental cable damage.

In a statement, Globe announced it had strengthened cooperation with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Cagayan de Oro City government.

The initiative is being led by an inter-agency task force chaired by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, aimed at safeguarding fibre infrastructure during road repairs.

The collaboration was prompted by 54 recorded cases of connectivity disruption in Cagayan de Oro City in 2024, mostly in the northern part of Mindanao.

So far this year, only 14 cases of fibre cuts have been reported in the city from January to March—an improvement attributed to better coordination.

“These unintentional yet highly disruptive fibre cuts are easily preventable through a simple solution: talking to each other. This task force has proven to be an effective platform to facilitate quick coordination among its members so that diggings and road repairs won’t end up damaging fibre cables,” said Teodoro Buenavista Jr., Regional Director at NTC Region 10.
