Local Speculation Indicates America Movil may buy Polish operator, Play

America Movil may be seeking to increase its presence in Europe, the Polish Paper Puls Biznesu has indicated.

America Movil is said to be considering buying Play, Poland’s smallest mobile operator with 7.5 million customers.

America Movil already has some interests inEurope, having acquired stakes in TelekomAustria and Dutch operator KPN. The Polish paper also suggests that America Movil may also be interested in Polish fibre network wholesaler, Hawe.

The purchases would make sense if America Movil is indeed looking to build on its pre-existing presence in Central and Eastern Europe.
