Slovakia’s 5G spectrum auction has concluded, bringing in a total of €100.23 million (US$119 million).
Three concessions in the 5G-ready 700MHz band were available, with all selling for at least €32 million, with Orange acquiring a 2×10MHz block for €33.63 million. O2 and Slovak Telecom each obtained a block of the same size in the 700MHz band, along with other licences.
In addition to the 700MHz band, spare spectrum in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands was made available for bidding. O2 took 2×4.2MHz blocks in the 900MHz band and 2×3MHz in the 1800MHz, spending €33.39 million on its total haul. Slovak Telecom meanwhile obtained 2×3MHz of frequencies at 1800MHz, spending a total of €32.66 for this together with its 700MHz licence.
Notably smaller operator 4ka (SWAN Mobile) declined to bid on a 700MHz licence, arguing that the base price was too high. It instead acquired 2×3MHz in the 1800MHz range for €550,000.
TeleGeography notes that the 700MHz licences are valid to the end of 2040, with concessions for the other frequencies expiring at the end of 2025.
