Huawei Launches Industry's First Single-Wavelength 2T Ultra-High-Speed Solution

At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC 2026), Huawei unveiled and demonstrated its single-wavelength 2T ultra-high-speed solution in the optical transmission domain.

Covering both terrestrial and submarine cable scenarios, this solution reduces per-bit network construction costs to enable global operators to deliver ultra-broadband, highly reliable, and agile communication services. This solution aims to enable business success in B2B/wholesale services such as data center interconnect (DCI) and transit.

With the popularity of AI, DCI and transit traffic has surged far beyond operators' revenue growth. To enhance competitiveness in DCI networks, operators must connect more third-party DCs. The most efficient path to achieve this is to lower per-bit network construction costs. Global operators are accelerating network upgrades to match the terabit-level traffic growth experienced by over-the-top (OTT) providers.

Currently, the transmission rate of global optical networks has increased from 400G to 800G and beyond 1T. To help operators address bandwidth challenges brought by AI, Huawei has launched the industry's first single-wavelength 2T ultra-high-speed solution, featuring three key capabilities.

 Flexible multi-rate configuration for diverse scenarios: In terrestrial cable scenarios, the solution can be configured with multiple rates such as 800G, 1.2T, 1.6T, and 2T, and the transmission distance is 30% further than the industry average. In submarine cable scenarios, the solution can be configured with multiple rates up to beyond 1T, and the transmission distance can reach over tens of thousands of kilometers. This ensures optimal per-bit cost efficiency for DCI at any transmission distance, from international backbone networks to metro short-haul networks.

 On-demand spectrum selection to maximize fiber capacity: In the case of single-wavelength 800G, the industry typically adopts one type of spectrum spacing. When transmission distances are shorter, the unchanged single-fiber capacity results in a waste of fiber resources. Huawei supports multiple types of spectrum spacing for single-wavelength 800G, enabling flexible fiber capacity configurations up to 64T depending on transmission distance. This is an over 25% improvement compared with the industry average.

 Integrated terrestrial-submarine networking for cost savings and high reliability: Huawei OSN 9800 is compatible with both submarine and terrestrial cable boards, reducing two devices at a submarine cable landing station to one and saving space required for equipment by 50%. These boards support the regeneration mode to achieve seamless modulation format conversion between submarine and terrestrial cables, significantly reducing optical module investments for client-side interconnection. Protection protocols such as ASON enable lossless transmission between submarine and terrestrial cable networks, achieving integrated submarine-terrestrial protection with service availability exceeding 99.999%.

Huawei's single-wavelength 2T solution is now commercially available across the OSN 9800 optical transmission product series. It has already been validated in live network trials with operators in Spain, Türkiye, and other countries. Huawei will continue to enhance user experience, build next-generation OTN networks, unlock network value, and empower new business growth for global operators.
