Czech-mate for 3G as O2 and T-Mobile complete shutdown

The Czech units of O2 and T-Mobile have confirmed that they shut down their 3G networks on 30th November.

O2 began switching off its 3G network on 31st May 2021, starting with Prague before shuttering services in the Olomouc and Zlin regions at the end of August. The country’s remaining regions saw their 3G services discontinued during November.

T-Mobile meanwhile only began its shutdown during October, but both operators have switched off services in accordance with their previously stated timelines. CommsUpdate notes that while the operators signed a 3G network-sharing deal in February 2011, their shared sites totalled around 1000.

Both players continue to operate their 2G networks. Rival provider Vodafone completed its 3G shutdown on 31st March 2021.
