Liberty Global sells UPC Slovakia to e& PPF Telecom Group for EUR95m

Liberty Global has agreed to sell its Slovakian subsidiary, UPC Slovakia, to e& PPF Telecom Group’s local unit O2 Slovakia for EUR95 million (around US$110 million), as e& continues to diversify its telecoms portfolio.

In a statement, e& PPF Telecom said it had signed a binding agreement to acquire 100% of UPC Slovakia on a cash- and debt-free basis. The group said the transaction will strengthen O2 Slovakia’s position as a leading provider of connectivity, TV and telephony services, supported by a broadband network reaching around 80 cities and 600,000 households.

The transaction remains subject to local regulatory approvals.

Balesh Sharma, CEO of e& PPF Telecom Group, said the acquisition would accelerate O2 Slovakia’s growth to “new levels”, adding that UPC Slovakia’s well-invested network will be complementary to O2’s existing assets.

The deal follows e& PPF Telecom Group’s acquisition of Serbian operator SBB d.o.o. earlier this year.
