LG CNS, a Korean information technology solutions provider and part of multinational conglomerate LG Group, has announced plans to construct a hyperscale artificial intelligence data centre in Vietnam. This announcement follows hard on the heels of news that the company has secured a data centre deal in Indonesia.
The company says it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Vietnam’s largest state-owned telecoms operator, and Korea Investment Real Asset Management at the Korea-Vietnam Business Forum held in Seoul this week.
According to the Korea Herald news service, under the terms of the agreement the three parties will form a dedicated working group comprising technical experts to jointly develop a hyperscale AI data centre in Vietnam.
The agreement will span the full range of AI infrastructure, from facility construction and hardware such as servers and storage to network systems, including communications and connectivity.
In addition to the data centre project, LG CNS and VNPT say they plan to explore cooperation in smart engineering, including smart factories and logistics, an aim that fits in with the Vietnamese government’s designation of digital transformation and the digital economy as national priorities.
The Herald points out that this announcement follows about a week after LG CNS became Korea’s first firm to secure an overseas AI data centre construction deal.
LG CNS plans to build a US$72 million AI facility in Jakarta via a joint venture with Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas Group, targeting completion by late 2026. The 11-storey data centre will start at 30 MW and scale to 220 MW, supporting over 100,000 servers and positioning Jakarta as a regional digital hub. Once completed, it is expected to be Indonesia’s largest such facility.
