Ooredoo Group announced on Tuesday that its digital infrastructure unit Syntys has acquired Qatar-based hyperscale data centre operator Q Data QFZ, which will add another 12.5MW of IT load capacity to Syntys’ data centre offerings in Qatar.
Q Data currently operates hyperscale data centre facilities within the Qatar Free Zones serving cloud and AI customers, with 5MW live and 7.5MW under development.
Under the transaction between Syntys and Doha Venture Capital, a subsidiary of Qatar Free Zones Authority, Syntys will take ownership of two Tier III‑certified, carrier‑neutral facilities, which also brings its total IT capacity in Qatar to 26MW.
Syntys CEO Sunita Bottse said the deal is in response to accelerating deployment requirements from hyperscale cloud providers and AI platform operators across the Gulf region, where available capacity remains constrained relative to demand.
“By integrating these facilities into the Syntys platform, we expand our capacity in Qatar with internationally recognised, Tier III‑certified, carrier‑neutral infrastructure tailored to the needs of hyperscale and AI customers,” she said in a statement.
Bottse added that the Q Data acquisition also supports Syntys' regional expansion plan to reach more than 120MW of installed capacity across MENA by 2030. “This acquisition advances that strategy by integrating established, cash‑generating assets that strengthen our presence in a critical market.”
Syntys was spun off from Ooredoo last year through the carve-out of Ooredoo Group's regional data centre operations. Not counting the Q Data acquisition, Syntys currently operates 26 active data centres in Qatar, Tunisia, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq.
