T964 taps Schneider Electric to provide power and cooling for Iraq data centre

Schneider Electric says it has landed a deal with technology and connectivity investment group T964 to provide power and cooling infrastructure for T964’s planned Tier III data centre in Iraq.

Billed as Iraq’s first, largest, and most advanced commercial Tier III data center, the carrier-neutral facility will feature 340 racks across flexible pods and cages in its initial phase, with scalable capacity growing from launch up to 12 MW as demand increases.

The data centre will be supported by 84 MW of on-site power and multiple independent internet sources to deliver Tier III-level availability and business continuity for mission-critical workloads.

Under the partnership deal announced on Thursday, Schneider Electric will provide the critical power and cooling infrastructure technologies required to ensure continuous operations, operational resilience, energy efficiency and long-term scalability.

As Iraq's first commercial Tier III data centre, the project is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the country's digital ecosystem by enabling cloud adoption, enhancing connectivity, supporting business continuity, and providing the infrastructure foundation required for future economic growth and innovation, said Sebastien Riez, cluster president of Schneider Electric North Africa and Levant.

“The region is witnessing an unprecedented acceleration in digital transformation, making investment in resilient, scalable digital infrastructure a strategic priority for businesses,” Riez said in a statement.

Mohamed Samy, GM for Iraq and Levant Countries at Schneider Electric, added that the new T964 facility “will establish a new benchmark for data centre performance in Iraq and contribute to the development of a stronger and more connected digital economy.”

T964 said the data centre project is currently on schedule, with construction and infrastructure works underway ahead of a planned launch by end of this year.

The project is part of T964's ambition to modernise Iraq’s telecoms and digital infrastructure as the country seeks to position itself as a regional data corridor linking the Gulf, Turkey and Europe.

This past February, T964 signed an MoU with Nokia to collaborate on rolling out connectivity solutions across multiple sectors, including enterprise networks, data centres, international transit and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services. Nokia also signed an agreement with the Iraqi government last year to construct the country’s first data centres.

Iraq’s Ministry of Communications also signed several agreements last year to land new subsea cables in Iraq.
