Nokia has reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iraqi technology and infrastructure investment group T964 to modernise Iraq’s telecoms and digital infrastructure.
According to TechAfrica News, Nokia and T964 will collaborate to roll out connectivity solutions across multiple sectors, including enterprise networks, data centres, international transit and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services.
The MoU was signed last week at the Datacloud Middle East event in Dubai. No financial details were disclosed.
The two companies aim to strengthen Iraq’s core digital infrastructure by closing existing infrastructure gaps to support growing demand for digital services – particularly for things like digital banking, e-government services, cloud adoption and enterprise digitalisation, the report said.
The partnership also aims to contribute to Iraq's ambitions to serve as a regional data corridor linking the Gulf, Turkey and Europe, the report added.
Last year, a number of deals emerged to further that goal, including several agreements to land new subsea cables in Iraq, and an agreement between Nokia and the Iraqi government to construct the country’s first data centres.
