Maxis partners with Aduna to boost API adoption in Malaysia

Malaysian telco Maxis said on Thursday it has entered a partnership with Aduna – the open network API JV led by Ericsson – to help drive adoption of standardised network APIs in Malaysia and accelerate digital innovation for businesses.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the GSMA’s Digital Nation Summit Singapore, Maxis will provide developers and businesses with access to Aduna’s global platform of common network APIs, enabling them to harness Maxis’ connectivity and network capabilities to develop new use cases and services.

Initial offerings will focus on APIs such as Number Verification, SIM Swap, KYC Match and Location Verification, all of which are designed to combat digital fraud and strengthen the security of online transactions. Maxis said the APIs will be especially valuable for businesses in sectors such as financial services and e-commerce.

“Through this partnership with Aduna, we can enable the development of more secure, user-centric services backed by seamless access to advanced network APIs,” said Maxis chief enterprise business officer Prateek Pashine in a statement.

Spearheaded and announced by Ericsson in September 2024, and launched in January this year, Aduna combines and sells network APIs globally via member operators, which currently includes América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, NTT Docomo, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, SoftBank, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone.

Vendors such as Microsoft, Syniverse, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and JT Global are also Aduna partners.

Aduna – which uses CAMARA-based network APIs specified under the GSMA Open Gateway framework – aims to smooth over the difficulties developers face in integrating the different capabilities of hundreds of telecom operators, which has to be done one operator at a time. Aduna enables developers to access APIs from multiple operators at once and develop apps on a larger scale, whilst also making the APIs available to a broader ecosystem of developer platforms.

Maxis rival CelcomDigi signed its own partnership MoU with Aduna earlier this year at Mobile World Congress 2025.

During the same event, Aduna struck a collaboration partnership with the Bridge Alliance, whose Bridge Alliance API Exchange (BAEx) – which was launched in July 2024 – offers a service similar to Aduna for its 34 operator members, which includes Maxis.

Maxis is the only Malaysian member of Bridge Alliance, but all five Malaysian telcos – CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile and YTL Communications – are members of the GSMA Open Gateway initiative.
