Ethio Telecom enhances remittance with Visa

Ethio Telecom partnered with financial powerhouse Visa to launch the first Visa digital wallet in Ethiopia, a move the operator claimed modernises remittance and bolster its fintech business.

The companies launched Visa Direct which enables Visa card users in over 190 countries to conduct remittance more efficiently and at a discount using the Telebirr virtual card number.

The service has been added in the Telebirr SuperApp which subscribers have to update to obtain a 16-digit virtual Visa card number to tap into the service.

Telebirr remittance customers can send money to other users in USA, Canada, Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, South Africa, Italy and Sweden to list a few.

Ethio Telecom recently announced profits increased 22%.
