Australian prefabricated modular data centre specialist company DXN announced that it has signed contracts worth a total of A$5.7 million (US$3.8 million) to build four cable landing stations for the East Micronesia Cable System (EMCS).
According to a statement released to the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), DXN signed the contracts with EMCS’ three stakeholders: FSM Telecommunications Cable Corporation (FSMTCC), based in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), BwebwerikiNet Limited (BNL) of the Republic of Kiribati, and Nauru Fibre Cable Corporation (NFCC) of the Republic of Nauru.
The 2,250km EMCS is currently being built by NEC to connect FSM, Kiribati and Nauru, with funding from the governments of Australia, Japan and the United States. No details have been given in terms of capacity.
Under the contracts, DXN will design, prefabricate and construct the four cable landing stations in its factory in Perth before delivering them to each of EMCS’ four planned landing points: two at the Micronesian islands of Pohnpei and Kosrae, and one each for Kiribati (on the island of Tawara) and Nauru.
The EMCS will provide the first subsea cable connections for Kosrae, Tawara and Nauru. Pohnpei gets its international capacity via the HANTRU1 Cable System that runs between the Marshall Islands and Guam.
DXN plans to deliver all four landing stations between January 2025 and March 2025. EMCS is scheduled to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2025.
DXN CEO Shalini Lagrutta said that the combined project is the company’s largest to date.
