Vi, Celltick deploy cell broadcast-based alerts system in India

Celltick, a provider of cell broadcast-based products and public warning systems, has announced that the telecom operator Vi (Vodafone-Idea) is the first operator in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh to support its Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) that is being deployed for the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

The IPAWS will deliver real-time geo-targeted warning alerts in more than 10 Indian languages during any natural or man-made disasters to Vi subscribers in the Andhra Pradesh circles, as well as, domestic/international roaming customers on Vi’s AP network, the telco said in a statement.

Celltick's Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE) and its Cell Broadcast Center (CBC) will deliver emergency warning alerts on Vi's network in the state, a press release here said on Wednesday. It will deliver emergency alerts on Vi’s 2G, 3G, and 4G networks in Andhra Pradesh, and even on 5G in the future.

IPAWS is a World Bank-aided project and AP now joins countries like the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Israel, and South Korea in deploying the system.

Celltick’s CB system supports advanced global standards, including EU-Alert, EMTEL, ETWS, EENA, ATIS, amongst others. It is also leveraged by other countries and foreign governments to alert their citizens about any upcoming threat.
