Chilean cable firm moves into mobile

One of Latin America’s largest telecommunications companies, the Chilean firm VTR, is entering the mobile telephony market. The cable operator, which already provides broadband, fixed-line and cable TV services, has selected Open’s SmartFlex B/OSS platform to support its endeavour.

Open will accompany the entire implementation and market rollout processes of the mobile telephony services of VTR, which will be offered to more than 5 million potential customers in a market with a cellular telephony penetration of 103%. The platform was chosen as it does not require solutions to be integrated, allowing for a faster rollout of products.

“Our convergence, flexibility and agility proposal will allow VTR to integrate all its services into a single B/OSS system. This will become a key factor in initiating cellular telephony services and becoming consolidated as one of the most important Latin American telecommunications sector companies,” Hernando Parrott, Open Vice President for Business Development, stated.
