SpaceX’s Starlink will launch operations in Ecuador on 1st April, with its first services going live in the Galapagos Islands.
Ecuador’s Ministry for Telecommunications and Information Society (Mintel) said that Starlink’s satellite platform aims to deliver broadband to remote rural areas of the country.
Telecommunications Minister Vianno Maino noted Starlink must meet certain regulatory requirements ahead of launch, underlining the government’s ambition to drive investment through forward-thinking regulation. “These inclusive public policies, in turn, make it possible to reduce the digital divide in peripheral and difficult-to-access areas”, noted Maino.
