Airtel Lanka boosting capacity and coverage with 4G expansion

Airtel Lanka is set to extend its 4G services throughout Sri Lanka via a new network expansion initiative.

The operator - a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel – plans to add over 400 new 4G/LTE sites to its network to complement the more than 2000 sites constructed during its initial 4G deployment.

According to CommsUpdate, Airtel Lanka aims to build the new sites in strategic locations that will deliver connectivity into remote rural areas, as well as boosting capacity in more densely-populated urban regions.

The pandemic has seen data usage double across Sri Lanka, pushing Airtel Lanka to extend its network and increase capacity. The operator noted that the new sites will help to connect a further 1 million Sri Lankans.
