MegaFon Tajikistan upgrades and expands 4G sites and fibre transport

MegaFon Tajikistan says it has made good progress in modernising and expanding its telecoms network during the first half of this year, including 4G upgrades, core support for VoLTE, fibre transport deployments, and a 5G test.
In a report issued Thursday, MegaFon Tajikistan said that it upgraded 47 base stations between January and June 2026 by deploying additional 4G frequency bands, particularly the 2600-MHz band.
The telco also launched new base stations in 23 settlements in Tajikistan, and installed 85 additional 4G modules on previously launched BS sites in those settlements.
Meanwhile, Megafon said it conducted a 5G test , which achieved a data transfer rate of 1.1 Gbps, which the telco said shows that its infrastructure is ready to make the move to 5G.
On the fibre front, Megafon said its southern transport ring in the Khatlon region began operations in the first half of the year, with a capacity of 100 Gbps. It also completed construction of its Dushanbe-Shurobod-Darvoz transport route. Those projects are expected to increase network stability and create the necessary bandwidth reserve to support growth of internet traffic.
Megafon Tajikistan also reported that it’s done a lot of work on its core network so far this year, such as expanding the capabilities of the VoLTE platform. Megafon now has 394,000 active VoLTE users, and has the capacity to support 2 million subscribers.
While network modernisation work was carried out throughout Tajikistan, Megafon said engineers prioritised the work based on load levels, growth of mobile internet consumption, the number of subscribers and the development prospects of each region.
Consequently, , most of the projects were carried out in the districts of Vakhdat, Tursunzade and Rudaki, directly adjacent to Dushanbe. Special attention was also paid to Khatlon border areas, including Dusti, Farkhor, Hamadoni and Shamsiddin Shohin.
"The main feature of the half-year was an integrated approach: we simultaneously expanded the radio network, strengthened the transport infrastructure and modernized the core of the network,” said MegaFon Tajikistan CEO Anatoly Izyumnikov in a statement. “Many projects remain invisible to subscribers, but it is the complex of work that ensures the stability of mobile communication and data transmission.”
For the second half of the year, MegaFon Tajikistan plans to build over 100 new base stations, install about 430 additional LTE modules and upgrade 150 4G base stations with 4T4R technology, which it said will further increase performance and network capacity.
Megafon also said it intends to build 180 km of new fibre networks – with trunk lines accounting for half of that – by the end of this year.
