Kyrgyzstan aiming for 5G launches this year

Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers has laid out its strategy for implementing 5G, which could see the technology become commercial available within 2022.

Local news outlet Sputnik.kg reported that the Ministry of Digital Development has been tasked with delivering the 5G plans, which in turn form part of the National Development Programme of the Kyrgyz Republic. Under the timeline of this nationwide programme, 5G implementation is scheduled between Q1 2022 and Q4 2023.

CommsUpdate reports that Kyrgyzstan has not yet decided on the pilot zones for the pilot launches that will constitute phase one of 5G implementation. Operators will be granted spectrum holdings to conduct these tests.

Kyrgyzstan’s government was forced to delay its planned 5G timeline that would have seen launches before the end of 2021.
