After procuring a US$80m loan to cover the cost of its 5G licence, Orange Egypt has now officially launched 5G services in the market.
The initial focus of the launch will be on high-traffic areas with strong demand for increased upload and download speeds, but services will be expanded nationwide in subsequent phases. Ahram Online reports that Orange will carry out deployment in collaboration with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) the ensure that its services meet international quality standards.
Egypt is experiencing growing demand for high-speed internet and data-intensive applications, with uses ranging from digital learning and remote work to streaming and HD video calling. Egypt is also investing in building Smart Cities for a digital future, which rely on 5G connectivity, and with the proliferation of AI, the increased capacity of 5G will be essential to provide high quality services without compromise.
Dr. Ayman Amiri, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Orange Egypt, said: “At Orange Egypt, we believe this technology will bring meaningful improvements to people’s lives and drive growth across vital sectors that depend on advanced digital infrastructure. Our continued investment in network development underscores our dedication to providing world-class telecom services and positioning Egypt as a leading regional hub for advanced technology.”
Orange Egypt was awarded a 15-year licence to provide 5G services in October 2024, having signed a preliminary agreement earlier in the year.
