Nokia Siemens Networks has been selected by VMS MobiFone for its 3G network roll-out in South Vietnam. Over-competition and subsequent failing revenues are a motivating force behind VMS MobiFone’s decision...
Vietnamese telecoms operator VMS MobiFone has “shot off the starting blocks” in the race to deliver 3G services. The operator has awarded contracts to Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to modernise its network to 3G and implement an IP backbone so that it can handle the expected growth in data traffic and deliver next- generation mobile broadband services.
“The 2G market in the country has become extremely competitive over the last few years. To stay ahead of the race, it’s important to offer best-in-class services at competitive prices. We are extremely excited about introducing 3G to Vietnam and offering high-speed data services to our users which will give us a significant competitive edge,” said Do Vu Anh, Deputy Director, VMS MobiFone. “Supported by Nokia Siemens Networks’ proven competencies in cost-effective and rapid network roll-outs, we are confident of ushering in a new era of connectivity experiences in the country.”
VMS MobiFone has awarded Nokia Siemens Networks the contract for its packet switched core network and IP backbone (here, NSN will expand VMS MobiFone’s PS core network with its power-efficient Flexi ISN (Intelligent Service Node) thereby enabling simplified data management and charging functionality).
NSN will design and maintain the network using its remote delivery capabilities, and will upgrade the operator’s existing radio access network to 3G using its Flexi Multiradio Base Station. With this latter VMS will benefit from a rapid 3G roll-out, reduced total cost of ownership and carbon footprint, and a smooth upgrade to future technologies. In addition, NSN’s multi-technology NetAct offering will enable the smooth management of the network.
“With eight mobile operators competing in the 2G segment, the average revenue per user has been declining in Vietnam. The launch of 3G will enable VMS MobiFone to introduce new advanced services quickly and efficiently, driving greater usage and increase revenues. This win is testimony to the strong relationship that we share with the customer and to our commitment to helping operators strengthen their customer relationships,” said Krittika Mahattanakul, Head of Asia North, NSN.
