One of the largest telecom providers in the Philippines has modernised its wireline infrastructure in key central and southern regions of the country. As part of a four-phase project valued at $51.5 million, Globe Telecom is changing its legacy digital line concentrators - from core switches down to street-side cabinets - with next generation network equipment providing voice and data.
The modernisation process involves readying the billing system for migration before constructing street-side cabinets and integrating the new switching system. The subscriber connections are then switched.
“This will make our network more resilient while providing additional capacity to our subscribers. It also reduces our operating expenses after completion; power consumption and space requirements will also be minimized,” said Robert Tan, Chief Technical Advisor of Globe.
He added that, “this undertaking gives our customers improved network performance and a more reliable service. In terms of accessibility, it would also be easier for them to get broadband service with the new system in place.”
In 2010, infrastructure was modernised in the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig and Marikina as part of the first phase of the transformation program. Numerous provinces across the country have now had their infrastructure upgraded.
