Bulgaria chooses Huawei as sole supplier for network

Huawei is set to provide end-to-end Next Generation Network (NGN) and Multi-service Access Network (MSAN) solutions for the upgrading of Bulgarian Telecommunications Company's (BTC) nationwide fixed-line network.

BTC is the major fixed network carrier in Bulgaria, covering more than 90% of the country's fixed-line market, and is also the sole supplier of end-to-end NGN) and MSAN solutions to upgrade the operator's carrier-class nationwide fixed-line network.

To enable its network to provide high-bandwidth services and increase the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), BTC chose Huawei's solutions after three rounds of rigorous testing over eight months, in order to smoothly upgrade the existing analogue network into more advanced NGN and MSAN networks. As part of the deal, Huawei will provide an end-to-end solution that will allow BTC to successfully offer a wide-range broadband access services over its existing network while smoothly evolving to a future network. This in turn will ease the complexities in network transformation and keep in operation BTC's existing network in the near future. This will not only lower the operation cost but also speed up business development.

BTC is expected to become the first carrier in the industry to deploy MSAN in network transformation, providing its subscribers with access to a broad range of high-bandwidth and high-performance telecom services in the world. Huawei has now carried out network transformation for more than 30 markets, including the world's first network-wide transformation project for Jabatan Telecom Brunei and the world's largest network transformation with Shenzhen Telecom, which has the highest number of live subscribers in the world. According to Dittberner's 2004 annual report, Huawei's SoftSwitch and Media Gateway (MGW) secured 24.48% of the global market, while Infonetics Research for 2Q05 has reported that Huawei is the world's number one player in the MSAN market segment with 34% market share.
