Employees of Lebanon’s Alfa and Touch stage walkout

Employees of Lebanon’s two state-owned mobile operators Alfa and Touch commenced a strike yesterday (13th December).

Beirut Today reports that the Mobile Operators Employees Syndicate spearheaded the “open-ended” strike after the continued breakdown of negotiations with both operators’ management teams.

In a statement, the syndicate said “we will not back down from defending our right to health and social coverage.” Chief executives at Touch have attempted to assure workers that they will “coordinate with the Ministry of Telecommunications to resolve the health insurance issue.”

TeleGeography reports that the action is also aimed at ensuring the payment of outstanding dues.
