Africell maps out deployment in Angola

Fresh from its commercial launch in Angola’s capital of Luanda, Africell has revealed the next locations for its phased network rollout of 4G services.

Africell executive director Goncalo Faria said Benguela, Huila and Cabinda are being lined up for its deployment, reported local newspaper Mercado.

Benguela is expected to see connectivity go live in July and Huila before the end of the year. Groundwork is currently being conducted for Cabinda. Jornal de Angola reported the province of Huambo is also on Africell’s immediate expansion plans.

On the company’s infrastructure, Faria said promised significant investment into its network will be based on its equity but stressed it will explore the option to network share with rivals, which will have the knock-on effect of lower prices for customers.

“Africell is interested in sharing infrastructure so that the operators that are part of the market can jointly leverage what already exists in the country”, said Faria.

Africell is currently sharing infrastructure with public and private sector companies and institutions such as Public Water Company (EPAL), insurance firm ENSA, the National Police, and operator rival Movicel.
