The Namibian telecoms watchdog has revoked UCOM Mobile’s telecoms licence due to unpaid licence fees totalling NAD19.3 million (US$1 million).
The Namibian reported there had been multiple attempts to reach a payment agreement which did not materialise. CRAN chief executive Emilia Nghikembua said the move was to ultimately protect consumers and maintain competition in the Namibian market.
“The non-payment of spectrum fees and hoarding are serious violations of licence conditions and grounds for cancellation,” said Nghikembua.
UCOM Mobile was also found guilty of “spectrum hoarding” according to the regulator, by not effectively using its assigned frequencies for mobile services.
