Vodacom commits ZAR435m to boost Northern Gauteng connectivity

Vodacom pledged to invest ZAR435 million (US$25 million) into the Northern Gauteng Area of South Africa this financial year to meet growing connectivity demand.

The operator said in a statement the cash will be spread between the North-West province and Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, targeting critical infrastructure upgrades, new site deployments, and advanced technology rollouts to meet growing customer demand and support economic growth.

Over 190 new 5G sites will be switched on, alongside new 4G upgrades including enhanced coverage through fresh 700MHz radio equipment. New sites will also be deployed in underserved locations, such as Ikagaleng township, which will see broadband connectivity for the first time, offering speeds up to 350Mbps.

Acknowledging the barrier of affordability in the Northern Gauteng Area, the operator is aiming to tackle it with personalised data and voice packages through its Just 4 You and Just 4 Your Town platforms. These platforms tailor deals based on subscriber behaviour and location to ensure attractive prices. It also offers a device financing model called Easy2Own.

“This investment reflects Vodacom’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities through connectivity. By expanding and modernising our network across NGA, we’re enabling access to digital services, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for millions of South Africans,” said Vodacom Managing Executive for Northern Gauteng region, Christo de Wet.
