Reliance Jio Infocomm and infrastructure firm Tower Vision have signed a tower sharing agreement for the operator’s 4G network.
The deal arose via a series of other agreements between Jio Infocomm and providers such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications.
Reliance Jio Infocomm Managing Director Sanjay Mashruwala said: “We are committed to offer our customers wide coverage of high speed 4G networks. We are continuing to build this through a combination of towers that we are constructing on our own and those that we are renting.”
Tower Vision Chairman Amit Ganani added: “Through partnering with Tower Vision India, Reliance Jio gains access to carefully selected sites, covering strategic locations where data customers today require uninterrupted high speed wireless coverage.”
The agreement brings the number of towers available to Reliance Jio up to around 188,400. The firm has pre-existing tower-sharing agreements in place with American Tower Company, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Viom Network.
Jio Infocomm was the dark horse in India’s recent spectrum auctions, acquiring pan-India broadband wireless access spectrum that it intends to user for 4G services. It is aiming to launch 4G between July and September.
