The Polish Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has confirmed six bidders for its upcoming 4G spectrum auctions, including the country’s 4 largest operators.
Orange, P4, Polkomtel and T-Mobile, in addition to 2 newcomers, will bid on 19 blocks of spectrum in the 800MHz and 2.6GHz frequency bands.
The country’s smallest operator – a group comprised of CenterNet, Mobyland and Aero 2 – declined to bid, possibly because it already offers 4G services via 1800MHz spectrum. It is rivalled by another smaller operator – Plus – which leads the 4G market with 1.1 million of the 1.62 million 4G connections.
Taking its place will be Hubb Investments and NetNet. The former firm, founded in 2012, is owned by Allford Investments, which also owns Emitel, a manufacturer of broadcast infrastructure. NetNet meanwhile is owned by Szymon Ruta, whose father Jerome Ruta is a business partner of Zygmunt Solorz-Zak – the owner of Polkomtel.
Bids will be reviewed before 24th December.
