The government of Thailand is aiming to sell 100MHz of unused 2.3GHz spectrum held by state-owned operator TOT in the country’s forthcoming 4G auctions.
Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula last week suggested that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) could auction additional frequencies alongside the planned 900MHz and 1.8GHz bands.
Following this request, the government has asked the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to appropriate 100MHz of 2.3GHz spectrum from TOT. In exchange, the operator may be able to retain 17.5MHz of 900MHz spectrum currently being used by AIS, once the contract between the two operators expires in September.
