Hungarian firm Konzum Nyrt has affirmed its interest in acquiring the local operations of Telenor if it makes them available for sale.
Last month, Telenor received an unsolicited offer for its telecoms operations in Bulgaria, Hungary, Montenegro and Serbia. The Norwegian group said it would complete its review of the offer by the end of the first quarter.
At the end of last year, Konzum Nyrt issued a strategy outline that identified telecommunications as a key area for investment. In a recent interview, the group’s CEO and Chairman Gellert Jaszai said “I can confirm that it remains appealing to us.”
Jaszai noted that banking and insurance were also of interest to the company, although cautioned that regarding Telenor, “all I can add to that is that if there is such a process this potential investment could be interesting for us. I cannot confirm or deny anything else.”
