Orange sells up in Niger

Orange Group is selling its entire 95.5% holding in its Niger operation to Zamani Com after getting the green light from Niger’s telecom authorities.

Zamani Com is fully owned by two minority shareholders in Orange Niger – local businessman Mohamed Rissa and Malian Moctar Thiam, respectively of Rimbo Invest and Greenline Communications.

In a statement, Orange said: “The Africa and Middle East region remains a strategic priority for the Orange Group. However, the market environment in Niger has led Orange to make this decision responsibly, prioritising business continuity for the benefit of the company’s customers and protecting the interests of the women and men working at Orange Niger.”

Services will continue to be delivered using Orange’s branding over a transition period. Information about the value of the deal has not been revealed.
