The SAMENA Telecommunications Council and the World Broadband Association (WBBA) said on Monday they have signed a MoU to collaborate on advancing broadband access across the South Asia, Middle East, and North Africa region and beyond.
The MoU sets forth a framework of mutual cooperation between both industry associations to foster knowledge exchange, support standardization (particularly for broadband CPE), promote best practices, and boost policy advocacy efforts to accelerate digital transformation across emerging markets.
SAMENA Council CEO Bocar Ba said the two organisations aim to expand broadband access across underserved regions, harmonise efforts to promote broadband-related policies and regulatory frameworks across South Asia and MENA, and advocate for greater awareness of broadband development issues.
"By joining forces with the WBBA, we aim to bring our regional expertise and multi-stakeholder engagement to the global broadband conversation – promoting collaborative approaches that advance connectivity, innovation, sustainability in investments for broadband development, greener deployment of broadband technology, and policy alignment, in general,” Ba said in a statement.
WBBA director general Martin Creaner added there was “tremendous potential in both organisations working together to empower regional stakeholders, accelerate innovation, and support digital ecosystem partners in our efforts to materialize globally harmonized broadband development. This partnership is an important step toward unlocking scalable impact across emerging digital economies.”
The MoU allows for future expansion of the partnership through supplementary agreements for specific joint projects or events.
