Chilean telecoms regulator Subtel has launched an online platform that aggregates mobile and broadband providers, aiming to make it easier for citizens to get connected and advance the country’s goal of closing the digital divide.
Through the portal, users can compare pricing and coverage for mobile and broadband services in specific areas. Data collected from the tool will also help Subtel identify regions that should be prioritised for infrastructure deployments.
Undersecretary of Telecommunications Claudio Araya said the service will streamline the process of getting online and will be regularly updated, with more providers to be added over time.
Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Juan Carlos Muñoz noted the launch supports the government’s Zero Digital Divide Plan, introduced in May 2022. The initiative focuses on four pillars: implementing fair regulations, upgrading digital infrastructure, establishing a public telecommunications company, and removing barriers in vulnerable communities.
