Thai government denies auction delay

Thailand’s government has shot down reports that the country’s 4G auctions will be delayed, despite the country’s regulator confirming the delays just days ago.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission stated that the auctions – originally due to take place in August - would be pushed back by a year due to delays in establishing Thailand’s digital economy legislation.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula has stated: “The government will set up a temporary committee to oversee the digital economy policy, which will also consider 4G issues before handing over authority to NBTC.”

He added that the NBTC would handle the bidding process without government interference.
