Nokia to modernise Viettel’s broadband network in Hanoi

Nokia has signed a contract to modernise Vietnamese operator Viettel’s broadband network in the capital city of Hanoi.

In a statement, the vendor said it will deploy its Broadband Network Gateway–Control User Plane Separation (BNG-CUPS) solution in the Hanoi metropolitan area. Nokia claimed the technology will simplify day-to-day operations for the state-owned operator and improve customer experience.

The company noted there is strong growth potential in Vietnam, as the rapidly industrialising Southeast Asian nation is aiming for the digital economy to contribute 30% of GDP by 2030 - an ambition that will require extensive communications infrastructure, including broadband.

“This initiative reiterates our commitment to continuously elevate network performance to deliver a best-in-class experience for our subscribers. We are excited to collaborate with Nokia to modernise the fixed broadband network while streamlining our daily operations. The solution will also help us enhance the energy efficiency of our networks. We are confident that Nokia’s solution will enable us to further strengthen network availability and reliability,” said Nguyen Tran Quynh, Deputy Director of the Technical Global Center at Viettel.

“This is a milestone project for us as it marks the first deployment of BNG-CUPS in Vietnam,” added Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks, Asia Pacific at Nokia.
